- Great location and excellent value.
- Large rooms with complementary internet access.
- FXB provide a contemporary bistro with chic food.
When The Berkeley Court Hotel closed down, it left a great gap in the hospitality scene around the Dublin 4 area. So when the doors opened some weeks later as the new Ballsbridge Court, locals and visitors alike were delighted. Now reinvented as a contemporary new hotel experience, the Ballsbridge Court retains the style and graciousness of the large ground floor reception area, but with a modern twist. We enjoyed a night there recently and were very interested in the new hotel concept of d4hotels which takes in both Ballsbridge Inn and Towers – formally Jurys – as well as the Ballsbridge Court – formally the Berkeley Court.
ACCOMMODATION AT BALLSBRIDGE COURT
The key element of this new hotel concept is that you can book a very good room in a very good location at a very good rate. Internet rates are always best, and you have the option to upgrade to a suite, or to stay at Ballsbridge Inn or Towers which are located just beside the Court. In fact, you can check out the services at the Inn and Towers while staying at the Court, and opt for dining at The Dubliner, or having a massage at Blow, a juice at Zumo or a coffee at Café Java! We went for a suite at Ballsbridge Court and it was a great room. Plenty of space, separate walk-in wardrobe area with iron and ironing board, bright bathroom with power shower and separate bath, comfortable couches and lovely bed linen. The heat was wonderful too, as it was a cold winter night we stayed there, and they had plenty of heat going on with a thermostat in our room so we could turn it down if we wanted.DINING AT FXB IN THE BALLSBRIDGE COURT
FXB are renowned in Dublin for their farm chargrilled steaks and fresh Irish fish – www.fxbrestaurants.com – and when they moved into the new Ballsbridge Court it was a marriage made in heaven. Their steaks come from the Buckley farm in Co Offaly and are hung for a minimum of 28 days. They are seasoned with a special blend of herbs and spices. We knew we were going to order steaks here, we just had to! However the menu offers plenty of choice with seafood, lamb and chicken and vegetarian options available. There are eight different steaks to choose from filets to Rib Eye to sirloins and of course the Surf N Turf combination, which is terrific. I opted for the Steak and Seafood, a 6 oz fillet of beef with scallops and our other main course was 10oz fillet. Sauces are peppercorn, béarnaise, red wine jus or garlic butter and home cut fries and champ came with them. We enjoyed a bottle of St Clair Premium Pinot Noir from New Zealand and the peppery spicy tones went very well with our red wine jus and peppercorn sauces. We had seafood starters, the seasoned calamari with pickled ginger and sesame was delicious can cooked perfectly. Our other starter was seared King scallops; both starters were very generously portioned. The menu is well balanced, cleverly constructed and would offer plenty of choice for a mixed grouping staying several days. FXB do breakfast and lunches and snacks throughout the day in their bright comfortable dining room. Incidentally, FXB are also located in Pembroke Street, Crow Street, Parkgate Street and in Christchurch – all of these being in Dublin.
At The Ballsbridge Court FXB have a Café Menu available during the day with brunch and lunch items and pastries. They also have a designated lunch menu with both light and substantial dishes available at very good prices. As well as that, there is an Early Bird menu, so there are plenty of options during the day and evening.
Still retaining the elegance of a luxury hotel, some services have been pared back to allow for a more economical top city location hotel experience – A4dable luxury they call it! Basically, you pay for your very comfortable room, and then decide what dining and other experiences you want. Don’t expect a free newspaper or room service – but do expect friendly service, a large comfortable room with flat-screen television and internet access, desk space, spacious bathroom with good water pressure, plenty of mirrors and all necessary amenities. You can dine in or out, you can come for work or pleasure, but it’s a great hotel address. Five minutes from the DART and the RDS, we will be back to this hotel
